South Africa, September 2019; THErelease of a new and unique ultra-premium South African brandy is set to shine the light anew on local, world-class craftsmanship. Destined for the glasses of every astute connoisseur, Bayede! Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandyis a certified Cape Brandy – the highest standard designated to a distilled beverage in South African law. It is made by Oude Molen Distillers in the Elgin Valley.
“His Majesty selected Oude Molen to distil the first Royal Cape Brandy based on their reputation for outstanding quality and integrity,” says Bayede! CEO Antoinette Vermooten. “The Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandy is worthy of the royal warrant and an outstanding showpiece for the brand.”
Every bottle of Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandy is decorated with 10 strings of hand crafted traditional Zulu beads.
“This forms part of the Bayede! brand’s commitment to bring hope and dignity to women in impoverished areas by means of job creation,” Vermooten says.
Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandyjoins a proud tradition of South African brandy-making that is renowned around the globe. The world’s best brandies, as consistently identified by leading panels at events such as the International Spirits Challenge, Michelangelo International Wine and Spirit Awards, and International Wine & Spirit Competition, reside in South Africa.
“The addition of Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandy to the top-end of the brandy category is tremendously exciting,” says SA Brandy Foundation director Christelle Reade-Jahn.
“There is worldwide interest in exceptional, aged drinks. Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandy proudly counts among South African brandies that have embraced the trend thanks to its focus and attention to detail. The quality of packaging recognises the importance of aesthetics and underscores the quality offering.”
Distilled using grapes from the Cape Winelands, Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandy is formulated by brandy master Kobus Gelderblom. The blend consists of selected lots of French and American oak barrels, with a minimum age of 10 years and features a remarkable interplay between dried fruit, cloves and curry leaf aromas – a rare and surprising combination. The gold medal awarded to the Cape Brandy at the recent Old Mutual Spirits Trophy competition underscores the product’s quality credentials.
Bayede! XO Royal Cape Brandy’sname is derived from the traditional greeting reserved for the Zulu king. Shouts of “Wena Wendlovu” follow the “Bayede!” salute, honouring the king by likening him to the mighty African elephant. The salute means “Hail the King!”
As with South African brandy, it is a tradition that spans centuries.
